Shocking weather maps are currently showing the whole of Britain will be hammered by freezing temperatures and deep snow in less than two weeks. As January is coming to an end, the map shows

areas including Scotland, Northern Ireland and most of England will all be affected by what has been dubbed the return of the Beast from the East. The severe wintry conditions are expected

to arrive from Monday onwards and it may turn especially colder across parts of the northeast. Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said: “Towards the middle of the month we are looking at

things becoming more unsettled and changeable. “There are signs of a growing risk of strong winds, rain and snow from mid-January into early February. “We are expecting to see it turn colder

with temperatures below average for the time of year although we will see some short-lived milder interludes. “Gales will be possible in the north and west, and it will turn colder from the

northwest. “Some snow is expected in the north, especially in brighter, showery, colder interludes between weather systems.” The sudden change in the weather forecast comes after 2019

started off with temperatures above average for the time of year. The Met Office long-range forecast now warns: “During the last week of January and into early February there is an increased

likelihood of colder weather conditions becoming established generally across all of the UK. “This would bring an enhanced risk of frost, fog and also snow. “These notably colder conditions

are by no means certain though, and even if they do occur, they are will probably still be interspersed with some milder, wetter and windy interludes.” Weather forecasters also warned the

snow seen so far across northern parts of the UK is just the beginning. Bookmaker Coral has this winter as 4/6 to go on to enter the record books as the coldest ever. The bets comes amid

with fears growing over a brutal cold spell arriving by the end of January. Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “We’re yet to really experience freezing temperatures but there’s a feeling that we

it’ll be entering the record books.” Punters also makes it odds on at 1/3, for snow to fall in London by the end of January. Mr Aitkenhead added: “Over the last few years it has become

almost traditional for snow to fall in February and March but it looks inevitable that the white stuff will arrive a little earlier this year.”
