BBC meteorologist Ben Rich warned the continent has split fortunes as a frontal system brings warmer weather to western Europe. He said: “Split fortunes at the moment, western parts of the
continent seeing frontal systems pushing in from the Atlantic so wet and windy weather but mild weather. Whereas further east we are still stuck in the deep freeze.
“Bitterly cold across a good part of Russia into Poland down towards Romania and Bulgaria, temperatures in these areas really struggling during Sunday.
“Some heavy rain continues across the western side of France, that wet weather extending across Germany and up into Scandinavia.
“Some snow across Norway there is still some chilly air in place here.”
The deep freeze in Europe comes as the UK is forecast to be gripped by plunging cold temperatures from next week, as snow could be on the way for parts of the country.
Mild weather will be replaced by bitter cold temperatures and snow early next week.
The weekend will start off with highs of 11C and lows of 6C in Scotland and parts of northern England. However the north, including Newcastle, could feel as chilly as 5C on Saturday and
there will be downpours across the north-west.
A Met Office forecaster said: “A bank of cloud will bring wet and windy conditions to most of England and Wales on Saturday morning.
“In the evening, another bank of wet weather will creep in from the south west, and the rain will be heavier, making it a mild blustery night.

“But on Sunday, it will be a much more milder start, with temperatures still feeling colder in the north.”
This will be a start of things to come for the following week, as snow is forecast from Tuesday and temperature dropping as low as 5C in northern parts of the country.
The majority of the snow will be over higher ground, in the north, on the hills and the mountains.
In the south-east on Monday, Brits will enjoy highs of 13C, but the cold snap will take hold in the north with temperatures of 7C, dropping to 5C on Tuesday.
And on Wednesday, a cold front will continue to take a grasp in the north, but the south will be milder.
Forecaster Luke Miall told the Standard: “It looks like as we go through into early December it’s going to remain quite unsettled.
“It looks at the moment like many areas will be milder and colder temperatures will be restricted in northern areas of the country.
“A lot of December looks like it may be a milder wetter scenario.”
This week has been dominated by wet and windy weather from Storm Diana as the country was battered with 80mph winds.
Storm Diana prompted the Met Office to issue several yellow weather warnings for wind and rain.
