Theresa May said the UK G https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/994289/brexit-news-uk-world-trade-organisation-tariffs-no-deal-eu-theresa-may-latest overnment was making preparations for
Brexit but that she was working for “a really good deal that’s in the interests of people living here in the UK.” Mrs May told Channel 5 News: “Far from being worried about preparations that
we’re making, I would say that people should take reassurance and comfort from the fact that the government is saying that we’re in a negotiation working for a good deal, I believe we can
get a good deal. “But actually it’s right that we say because we don’t know what the outcome is going to be, we think it’s going to be a good one, we’re working for a good one but let’s
prepare for every eventuality.” Discussions surrounding a Brexit no deal have increased since the Prime Minister released her Chequers agreement. The white paper led to series of
resignations, including the former Brexit Secretary David Davis and former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson. Mrs May added: “This is not just about stockpiling that concept, what it is is
about making sure that we’ll be able to continue to do things that are necessary once we’ve left the EU, if we leave without a deal. “Now I think people should take reassurance from the fact
that this is a government that’s saying you know what we’re going to be responsible about this we’re going to be sensible about this. “While we’re doing that we’re going to work for a
really good deal that’s in the interests of people living here in the UK.” Brexit Secretary, Dominic Raab, pointed out on Tuesday that there was a “real risk” of a no deal Brexit and the UK
needs to be ready. He told MPs in the Exiting the EU Committee: "I don't doubt that we would have to look at the uncertainty that we would face in the short-term, but I think
long-term actually we would still be able to thrive. "Of course, as with all risks and opportunities, it depends how you mitigate the risks and grasp the opportunities. What I'm
not going to do is wallow in pessimism about the state of this country in relation to Brexit and we are going to go into these negotiations with economic confidence and political ambition.
"I am going to bring to Mr Barnier and to the whole enterprise as much energy as I can. What I am not going to do is allow us to cower in the corner, afraid of our own shadow, about the
potential that that energy and that ambition and that principle and that pragmatism isn't reciprocated on the other side. I think we will be braced for all the eventualities."
Earlier speaking to MPs in the House of Commons, he said: “No deal is certainly a real risk and as the time for the deal approaches the only responsible thing for us to do is make sure we
are ready for all eventualities.”
