A Canada-style Brexit deal would ensure the UK retains the ability to trade goods with the European Union – but not the services the British economy relies on.

Mr Sikorski said: "The United Kingdom is going to get a Canada-style free trade agreement.

"But I’m not sure it’s good for Britain. Britain has a great deficit in trading goods but the goods will continue to flow. Britain needs to sell its services."

The former Foreign Minister said Britain will not be able to trade services with other EU member states because of the Government's decision to leave the EU common market and the customs

union.

Mr Sikorski continued: "To sell services you need to be in the single market.

"But you won’t be in the single market. So I think you’ll have some difficulties."

The Polish politicians also warned Theresa May's recent visit to Poland could alienate other EU member states as they recently triggered a process that could see Warsaw lose its voting

rights within the European institutions.

He said the United Kingdom needs "the majority" of the EU27 to be in favour of a good Brexit bill for Britain and Mrs May's "sympathy" could backfire.

Mr Sikorski told Channel 4 News: "Theresa May is trapped by the fact that she needs the goodwill of the majority of the European Council, of European member states and it’s those states who

have just sanctioned Poland.

"It’s all very well to feel sympathy for fellow Europhobes but Britain needs to negotiate a good deal for itself. And for that, you need the majority."

Mrs May flew to Poland to ensure Britain's close relationship with Warsaw will continue after Brexit.

Poland and the UK have been close military allies since Polish allies flew with the RAF during the Battle of Britain.

The Prime Minister said she was committed to working towards a closer relationship with the eastern European state after Brexit.
