A raft of popular devices could be barred within weeks of the crucial vote despite senior EU officials warning the move would bring them “ridicule”.
President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker revealed the decision to push ahead with plans so soon after Britain decides whether or not to sever ties with the bloc.
The bizarre ruling is set to be introduced after fat cats decided to restrict the most energy-inefficient appliances in favour of “ecodesign” models.
And the extreme measures could be extended to yet more products after European Commission experts set their sights on mobile phones, patio jet-washers, hand-dryers and internet routers.
The plans were prepared by Brussels months ago but have been on delay over fears they could be seen as an attack on Britain ahead of the referendum campaign.
Similar bans on products such as vacuum cleaners and ovens have caused outrage among Britons in the past.

The Commission’s vice president for growth Jyrki Katainen spoke in favour of the widespread ban.
But minutes of a College of Commissioners meeting reveal the former prime minister for Finland also had his doubts about the plans.
They say Mr Katainen “admitted that ecodesign standards were sometimes ridiculed in the media in terms of the political and geostrategic issues the union was faced with”.
Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the Vote Leave campaign said: “The EU now interferes with so many aspect of our lives, from our breakfast to our borders.
“If we vote remain we will be powerless to prevent an avalanche of EU regulation that Brussels is delaying until after the referendum.”
UKIP MEP David Coburn has in the past slammed the plans after claiming an EU approved toaster took four attempts to brown his bread.
