Driver, 20 arrested over death of 3 friends in horror car crash while

Three young people died in the horror crash when a blue Citoren Saxo lost control and ploughed into a tree before smashing through the front garden wall of a house. Emergency services were

called to the scene on the A425 Radford Road in leafy Leamington Spa, Warks., at around 2.45am on Saturday. On arrival they found two men, aged 23 and 25, and a 27-year-old woman had been

thrown from the wreckage and had suffering multiple injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics attempts to revive them. Two other men, aged 20 and 21, were taken to

University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire with serious injuries. The driver of the car has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the

influence of alcohol. Witnesses told how residents battled to revive the casualties following the horrific smash. One 30-year-old man, who did not wish to be named, said: “I was awoken by

the sound of what I thought was a bomb going off. “I rushed outside and saw the wreckage of the car and three bodies strewn across the pavement. “A GP who lives opposite came out and tried

to revive them, I helped by trying to manoeuvre the bodies around. “I can’t describe the scene - it was horrific and will haunt me forever. You don’t want to know how they looked. “All three

emergency services were on the scene within minutes but it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save them. “It is so sad, and I just feel sorry for the families involved. They

looked so young and their lives have been snatched away from them. “The driver was walking around and talking at the time - he looked distraught and dazed. “There have been accidents on this

road before but nothing like this. It is real tragedy.” Another local resident, Sheila Lloyd, 44, added: “You have to feel for the families, everybody is very shocked. “They had been on a

night out from what I’ve heard but its ended in tragedy. “The young lad arrested will no doubt be in bits if he has decided to get behind the wheel of the car drunk which has resulted in the

death of his friends.” Warwickshire Police have launched an investigation and are now appealing for any witnesses to get in touch. A force spokeperson said: “The road will be closed for

several hours while police collision investigators examine the scene to determine the cause of the collision. “The three deceased have not yet been named as formal identification is still to

take place. “Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward as part of their investigation. “Anyone with any information should contact Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting incident

number 53 of 20 June.”
