Pro-EU SNP campaigners will unveil their plan they claim will keep Scotland inside the European Union and scupper Brexit. The bombshell announcement comes from a former SNP spin doctor

Fergus Mutch, who said that Scotland won't allow Brexit to happen. Speaking to Al Jazeera, Mr Mutch revealed he was director of EU and Me, an SNP Remainer campaign for Scotland to break up

the UK and then join the EU.

Mr Mutch, formerly the SNP's head of communications and research, told Al Jazeera that they would exploit the sky-high support for Scottish independence.

He said that next week a new campaign to keep Scotland in the EU would be launched aimed at blocking UK attempts to cut ties with the EU.

The Remainer said: "Just a few months ago, it was unthinkable for the UK to leave without a deal. Now the Tory Government seems to be talking that up.

He added: "Scotland is a firmly pro-EU country and so yes we will be campaigning to ensure we are backing Europe."

In recent weeks, polling has consistently suggested that more than half of Scots want to leave the United Kingdom.

This surge in support has been tied to Scotland’s leadership in controlling the coronavirus compared with England, and a hostility to Brexit.

A survey two weeks ago found 63 percent of people in Scotland were in favour of extending the transition period.

However, research from Survation on behalf of Mark Diffley Consultancy and Research found that 52 percent of Britons across the country were against delaying the transition date.

At the time, Mr Mutch, who commissioned the surveys, said; "The sensible and practical thing to do would be for the UK Government to agree an extension to the transition period beyond the

end of the year.

"Failing to do so leaves open the very real risk of a No Deal outcome, and significant damage to our future relationship with the EU.”

The SNP's Shona Robison told Al Jazeera: "People in Scotland have recognised that the UK Government has been so inept in their handling.

"I think it has persuaded a lot of people who were not supporters that we can actually manage our own affairs better."

On Monday Sir John Curtice, the UK’s leading polling expert, echoed this point, saying Nicola Sturgeon’s handling of the coronavirus crisis has made Scottish voters more open to the idea of

independence.

Professor Iain Black from Stirling University said that to secure independence support for the measure must rise beyond 60 percent.
