Lord Campbell of Pittenweem launched a scathing attack on the Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and her Government saying "no one should be surprised that the SNP is already

seeking way to exploit the uncertainty and economic fragility" of the coronavirus. It comes as Ms Sturgeon has been accused of playing party politics during the COVID-19 pandemic, even

cutting away from the UK-wide strategy to fight the invisible killer disease. In a letter to the Times, Lord Campbell said: "No one should be surprised that the SNP is already seeking

ways to exploit the uncertainty and economic fragility that will prevail long after the coronavirus has been contained. "It is what the party does, and those of us who live north of the

border know only too well the SNP's politics of distraction. "But now there is an even more compelling reason to obscure the failures in health and education that are ever present

indices of SNP government poor performance. "The SNP establishment harbours deep hatreds: The Sturgeonists and the Salmondettes are locked in mortal combat for control of the

party." His letter was in response to a column by Clare Foges, David Cameron's former chief speech-writer, who criticised Ms Sturgeon and accused her of "playing the political

strategy to tackle COVID-19. Ms Sturgeon has been accused of playing party politics by announcing decisions in relation to a COBRA meeting ahead of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. She has also

set up a Scottish volunteer scheme instead of a UK-wide scheme and has named the UK-funded NHS hospital after a Scottish nurse instead of NHS Nightingale Glasgow. Meanwhile, the SNP leader

stunned officials in Downing Street when she released a detailed 25-page plan setting out how lockdown measures could be eased in the future. She has since decided against easing lockdown

restrictions in Scotland, with England making the first steps to coming out of the shutdown.
