“There is no rehabilitation – rehabilitation is a made up word by politicians.” Mr Lachey described the daily routine in a Category A prison, which has the highest level security and house

the worst offenders. He said prisoners are let out for around 20-30 minutes in the morning for a shower and move around. Then, at around 12.30pm they are let out for around five minutes to

2pm, they will be allowed to exercise if they wish. Mr Lachey said they “throw you all into the yard” for around 45 minutes for your exercise. Sometimes they may be allowed half an hour of

Mr Lachey said it is much easier for the guards to put prisoners into the yard and have two officers stand at the entrance, rather than allow inmates to socialise loose on the wing. Then,

at around 4:30pm, they are called back to the hot plate to collect their dinner, which again they take back to their cell to eat. The prisoners are then left behind bars until the end of the

ITV's A Confession (Image: ITV) However, he said in Category B (medium security), Category C (lower security) and Category D (open prisons), things are different. He also claimed high

profile inmates like Halliwell would be considered ‘vulnerable prisoners’ and kept on a Category A protection wing. Other people held on protection wings are sex offenders, child killers,

gang members who have testified against others, former police officers and former prison guards. This is to protect them from being attacked by the general prison population. However, the

former Strangeways inmate insisted the daily routine is the same on these protection wings as it is in the rest of the Category A areas.
