During an interview with sky news host, Niall Paterson, Mr Adonis spoke on austerity and immigration concerns before delving into the “extreme” of leaving the European Union and a second

referendum vote. The Sky News host asked: “Jeremy Corbyn, who has given no sign, despite the fact he may be in a position to push for one, that he has any desire to have a second

referendum.” Mr Adonis replies: “I think we’re moving in a very short order to a second referendum”.

Mr Paterson interrupts to emphasise his question again by directly asking does he believe Jeremy Corbyn is moving towards a second referendum.

The Labour politician answered: “I do believe so because Theresa May’s treaty is going to be defeated.

“Either there is a general election or there is a referendum.”

Mr Adonis then explains that he is doubtful that there will be a general election.

He continued: “Theoretically you might have a new negotiation but we have only got 3 months to go.

“Our European friends have already said after two and a half years to get to this point, there is no way they can open up the whole thing.

“The treaty is going to go down, there is no practical alternative, we will have a second referendum in the middle of next year.”

The Sky News host at this point scoffs and smiles and asks whether Mr Adonis is willing to stick his reputation on the line with his certainty of a second referendum, to which he replies he

is.
