King Charles III made it clear today that his mother's funeral on Monday, September 19 will be a Bank Holiday, with people being allowed to pay their respects to the late monarch as she

reaches her final resting place. This day will be the final day of national mourning. Queen Elizabeth II died aged 96 on Thursday, September 8 at her Scottish residence in Balmoral. Her

death marks the end of her seven decade reign, and has prompted a global outcry as millions of people pay tribute to Her Majesty.  Her Majesty's funeral will spark the end of an

Elizabethan era, but the allowance of an additional Bank Holiday means people now have the freedom to mark her reign on this day. A government spokesman said: "Monday, September 19, the

date of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral, will be a national bank holiday. "This will allow individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to

Her Majesty and commemorate her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning. "This bank holiday will operate in the same way as other bank holidays, and there

is no statutory entitlement to time off. Employers may include bank holidays as part of a worker's leave entitlement." When it came to the rules on school openings, the spokesman

continued: "Yes, schools will be closed. We are not asking them to remain open on the day of the bank holiday." Westminster Abbey said it would be closed for visiting and

worshipping while preparing for the Queen's funeral. Announcing the news on Twitter, a statement said: "Buckingham Palace has announced that the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

will be held at Westminster Abbey at 11am on Monday, September 19. "As a royal church, the abbey had a special relationship with the Queen. It was here that she married Prince Philip

in November 1947, and her coronation was held in the abbey in June 1953. The abbey will be closed for visiting and worshipping from Monday, September 12 as we prepare for the state funeral,

chance to repay a heartfelt debt by carrying out the Queen's last wishes.
