Prince Andrew had a civil sexual assault case filed against him over claims made by Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre. Giuffre claimed the Duke of York sexually assaulted her on three

occasions when she was 17, allegations the royal has strenuously denied. In 2019, following his interview with Emily Maitlis, the Duke voluntarily stepped back from his royal duties. The

case then settled for a sum reported to be around £12million, though this was not an admission of liability by Andrew. Speaking on LBC, The Sun's Royal Correspondent, Matt Wilkinson

discussed Andrew's confidence in getting a "role back".

LBC Host Nick Ferrari asked Mr Wilkinson: "Do we have any sense about the man [Andrew] himself.

"Is he angry, is he bitter, is he convinced he will one day be back supposedly on the balcony, what's his state of mind?".

"You've got to think, what does Andrew do, he doesn't have any jobs, he hasn't got any roles.

"I have been told he is quite confident that he could get his positions back."

He also pointed out that the Duke, who is the Queen's third child, is "very close to the Queen".

He continued: "He does have a bit of influence with the Queen", adding that "he's very confident that he could find a role".

The royal expert also stated that the confidence he has is because "that's the personality that he is".

In 2019, Jeffrey Epstein was charged with one count of sex trafficking of a minor and one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking.

Epstein pleaded not guilty and was later found dead in his prison cell. His death was later ruled a suicide.

In his 2019 interview with Emily Maitlis, the Duke spoke of how he did not regret his friendship with Epstein.

The interview received enormous amounts of public criticism and following this, the Duke made a decision to voluntarily stepped back from his royal duties.

In his statement, he wrote: "I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission."

In February 2022, it was confirmed that Prince Andrew had agreed to pay a settlement fee to bring the civil sexual assault case brought by his accuser, Virginia Giuffre, to a close.

The settlement agreement has been reported to amount to as much as £12million, although the official amount has never been released.

Despite this, his tattered reputation could leave little, if any, options to make his way back into public life.
