Prince Harry made the day of a War World 2 veteran as he sent a letter to thank him for his already successful fundraiser. 95-year-old Private Joseph Hammond, who during WW2 fought for
Britain in Ghana, walked for 23km (14 miles) to raise money for African frontline workers and veterans in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
In his letter, seen by the CNN, Harry wrote: "Even at '95 years young' I imagine it was not an easy task.
"However, given the service and selflessness you have demonstrated throughout your life, it does not surprise me that you would take on a challenge such as this -- and that you wanted to
walk even more miles.
The letter was written by Harry but was also sent on behalf of his wife Meghan Markle.
After receiving the letter, the veteran published a brief clip on Twitter to share with the world his reaction.
The video starts with Pte Hammond reading a line from the letter - which leaves him astonished.
The veteran reads: "Meghan and I would like to send you our warmest wishes."
Throwing his fist in the air, Pte Hammond adds: "Wow, it is marvellous. From Harry?

One wrote: "Made me cry. Your joy is so contagious. I'm SO happy for you".
Another said: "So happy for you. Seeing you so excited and happy lit up my whole face with a big smile."
A third added: "Thank you Mr Hammond for your service, commitment and being an example for us all.
"I’m so glad Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan acknowledged your service and efforts to help the front line workers and veterans."
Pte Hammond was one of the veterans Harry and Meghan met last year after their visit at the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey.
The veteran also met other members of the Royal Family, but he took a liking in particular to the Duke of Sussex.
Speaking about their encounter, the veteran said: "This man especially, Prince Harry, I glued myself to him because he is also a soldier, he's been to Afghanistan, and we spoke about the
military, my battalion.
"We exchanged ideas. It was wonderful."
The Duke recalled their meeting in his letter, saying: "It was an honour and a pleasure to meet you at the Field of Remembrance in London last year, and Meghan and I send you our warmest
wishes."
The veteran has already gathered more than 1200 donations, amounting to almost £35,000, on his JustGiving page.
However, his goal is to hit the £500,000 target, which will be given to the GUBA Foundation and the FHA.
This charity supports the African communities in the UK and abroad on issues around disabilities, health, educational attainment and the relief of poverty.
The Forces Help AF (FHA) is an NGO with the purpose of providing a cushion for all Ghanaian veteran soldiers.
Pte Hammond had previously revealed he had been inspired by Colonel Tom Moore, who raised millions for the NHS after completing 100 laps in his yard before turning 100.
The Ghanaian veteran told the CNN: "He's a veteran and I am a veteran.
"I sat quietly and thought over ... his achievements and thought why not, if he has done it in Britain, at 95 years old, I can do it myself".
