Prince Andrew has faced backlash in the weeks that have followed his Newsnight appearance with the BBC’s Emily Maitlis - with many saying the hour-long interview raised more questions than

it did answers. The Duke has since withdrawn from all 230 patronages and his royal duties, with the blessing of his mother the Queen. Several charities, businesses and organisations have

also cut ties with Prince Andrew following the Newsnight interview. In a statement, the Duke of York announced he would be taking a step back from his royal jobs. He said: “It has become

clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going

on in the many organisations and charities that I am proud to support. READ MORE: QUEEN DISTRAUGHT OVER CLAIMS SHE’S LOST GRIP ON ROYAL FAMILY “Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may

step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.” He added: “I continue to unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein. “His

suicide has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims, and I deeply sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure. “I can only hope that,

in time, they will be able to rebuild their lives. “Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required.” Meanwhile, the Queen was

last week spotted out on a horse ride with her son, after apparent crisis talks. A source told the Telegraph the Queen decided to force Andrew to step back from public life, adding: “The

Duke was summoned from his home, Royal Lodge Windsor, to see the Queen personally at Buckingham Palace. “Effectively he was told to bow out gracefully. “They agreed he could release a

statement saying it was his decision but it was the Queen who told him to do it.” The Queen has also cancelled Prince Andrew’s 60th birthday party which was due to take place in February

2020 and instead, according to The Times, a quiet family dinner will be held.
