family. The Mountbatten family is a German dynasty and the Queen’s husband Prince Phillip adopted the Mountbatten from his mother’s family in 1947. Mountbatten-Windsor is the surname used by

the male-line descendants of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. A declaration made in Privy Council in 1960 declared that the name Mountbatten-Windsor applies to
