Mr Hunt, who has admitted he is the “underdog” in the contest, was questioned at the hustings what action he would take as Prime Minister to reform the “left wing bias” BBC. The Foreign

Secretary was questioned after Boris Johnson on his policies and views if he were to be the next Prime Minister. In reply to the BBC bias question, he said: “I’ve experience biased at times

and I have experienced other times when they are fair.” Mr Hunt said: “Let me tell you what I won’t do and what I will do. What I won’t do is interfere with the BBC’s editorial independence

because when I go around the world, people say that the most impressive thing about this country is that we are one of the most robust democracies in the planet.” He said that people must

see the BBC is holding politicians to account. He said: “I would say to the BBC first of all I expect you to cover how tough it is to set up a business just as much to say how tough it is to

live on benefits. “We are going to have a prosperous, successful society.” “You need to understand the wealth creation that is the fundamental underpinning of all the social missions that

we all believe in.” He described the BBC as a “very trusted brand” and he said the BBC could become the english language broadcaster of choice. On the issue, journalist Paul Waugh said:

“Jeremy Hunt refused to play to the gallery there on the editorial independence of the BBC, while making his point about 'liberal bias' admitted by some in BBC. “As for the

ambition to make the BBC a global brand, has he forgotten Tory cuts to WorldService?” The hustings in Birmingham today were the first of 16 membership hustings that Mr Johnson and Mr Hunt

are due to take part in. The Foreign Secretary has said: “Get things right and we can deliver Brexit, unite the party and send Corbyn packing.”
