Nokia is having a busy day with it already unveiling its new budget Nokia 8110 feature phone. This device lands in pockets for just a €79 but there’s another smartphone launching very soon
that’s taking aim squarely at the more expensive Galaxy S8. The new Nokia 8 Sirocco has just been revealed at Mobile World Congress and it shares many of its features with Samsung’s
award-winning flagship. The most obvious similarity is the display, with Nokia’s latest offering including a design that’s straight out of Samsung’s style book. With an edge-to-edge screen
that curves around both sides of the phone the new Sirocco looks pretty similar the S8. HMD Global, the team behind the device, says they’ve opted for a curved pOLED 2K display on the
Sirocco which they say is just 2mm thin at the edge. The rear of the phone is also covered in glass and stainless steel which allows it to be charged wirelessly with full compatibility with
the Qi system. Although there's a lot that's the same, one thing you won’t find on an S8 but will on the new Nokia is a dual rear camera with ZEISS optics. This double snapper
allows the Sirocco to offer 2x optical zoom as it includes both a 12MP main and 13MP telephoto cameras. To help improve images further the Nokia 8 features easy access to a Pro mode which
allows users quick and easy manual control over white balance, focusing, ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation. Plus Dual-Sight technology helps you tell both sides of the story,
creating the #Bothie by using both front and rear cameras simultaneously. Under the hood you’ll find Qualcomm’s 835 Snapdragon processor a 3260 mAh battery and 128GB of memory. The Sirocco
is also water resistant and will ship with Android Oreo 8 out of the box. HMD Global says the Nokia 8 will be available in black only and will cost €749 - slightly cheaper than Samsung’s
Galaxy S8 which current costs around €800. There’s no UK launch date set but the device is expected to arrive in stores from this April. During their MWC press conference the firm unveiled a
total of four smartphones which include the Nokia 1, Nokia 6 and Nokia 7 Plus. All of the devices will also be available from April with the Nokia 1 costing $85, Nokia 6 €279 and Nokia 7
Plus setting fans back €399. Speaking about the new devices Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, said: “Today, we are delighted to announce the expansion of our range with the
introduction of five new devices, setting new benchmarks in smartphone design with Nokia 8 Sirocco and delivering our most accessible smartphone to date in Nokia 1. “Through these new
devices, you’ll see our innovative approach to engineering and our strong legacy in imaging coming to the forefront in collaboration with ZEISS. And you will recognise our best in class
materials led design and the distinctive finish throughout the portfolio which delivers all the reliability and durability expected of a Nokia phone. “We pride ourselves on making
smartphones that address real-world needs. Our commitment to pure, secure and up-to-date Android is core to our strategy and is loved by consumers. "Today, we take that commitment to a
deeper level by becoming the lead partner for the Android One programme globally, delivering an experience that is endorsed by Google.”
