iPhone 6S Reviews: 3D Touch and Live Photos make this the 'best phone EVER'"

The first Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus orders will begin dropping through letter-boxes across the globe on Friday – unless you're this lucky lady.

Apple has reportedly already SOLD-OUT of its initial batch of smartphones, which boast a number of new features including 3D Touch and 4K video recording.

And now the first reviews of the latest Apple handset have started to trickle in.

Nilay Patel, writing for The Verge, called it "the best iPhone ever made, and it is right now the best phone on the market."

He said: "If you're upgrading from an iPhone 5S or anything older, it will blow your mind.

Apple's iPhone 6S Plus is a worthy upgrade that you don't actually need, but may want for the 3D Touch and stunning 4K video. It should please Apple fans and probably attract more than a few

Android switchers

"There just aren't other companies that can roll out a feature like 3D Touch and make it work in a way that suggests the creation of entirely new interface paradigms, and every other phone

maker needs to figure out exactly why Apple's cameras are so consistent before they can really compete.

"Note that I said the 6S Plus, not the 6S. I am convinced that in another year or so every phone will be the size of the 6S Plus, so if you're going to jump in, just go all the way.

"You'll get a slightly better camera and a little more battery life out of the deal as well. The future is here. You should face it with a gigantic screen."

In his review, New York Times journalist Brian Chen claims "when Apple incorporates new smartphone capabilities, the features may become widely used by consumers and then copied by

competitors.

"This time, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are being equipped with two signature new tricks: 3D Touch, which brings up different functions by pressing hard or softly on the touch screen; and Live

Photos, which lets you snap photos that essentially turn into miniature videos.

"I had mixed feelings on the usefulness of the new features. I found that Live Photos quickly became an enjoyable, integral part of shooting photos with an iPhone.

Joanna Stern, of the Wall Street Journal wrote: "If you have an iPhone 6, you won’t be overly jealous of those who get a 6s — maybe just a tad envious of those Live Photos.

"If your iPhone is more than two years old, this is the phone to get. Just make sure to pay Apple’s ransom for the 64GB version.

"The story of the iPhone 6s is the same as the 5s, or the 4s before it.

"It is a slightly better iPhone — that must be what the S stands for. And like its “S” predecessors, it doesn’t address all complaints.

However Lance Ulanoff, of Mashable, is not as keen on Live photos – and has branded it a "rare gimmick," from Apple.

"Is it a must-have upgrade? No, unless you must have gorgeous 4K video and can't live without the innovative 3D Touch. By sheer volume, iOS 9 probably adds more feature enhancements than the

iPhone 6S Plus, and you can get it for free.

"This doesn't diminish Apple's accomplishment. Take me, for instance: Now that I’ve had a taste of 4K and Peek and Pop, I don’t know if I can go back.

"Apple's iPhone 6S Plus is a worthy upgrade that you don't actually need, but may want for the 3D Touch and stunning 4K video. It should please Apple fans and probably attract more than a

few Android switchers.

Stuart Miles, of Pocket-Lint said "it would be easy to brush this new feature aside as a gimmick, but it is far from it.

"The actions, which span across all facets of iOS 9 (more on that latest operating system update later), are designed to speed up tasks that previously took two or three taps of the screen.

"It's a small change, but it all helps speed up that journey."
