The battle of the internet browsers appears to be intensifying with Google and Microsoft both trying to get web users to make the switch to their software. Of course, Google's Chrome
continues to be the world's most used way of accessing the internet but Microsoft's new Edge browser is growing in popularity.
This Chromium-based application has been a big hit since it launched earlier this year especially as it appears to be far less power-hungry than Chrome.
Latest stats, gathered by NetMarketShare, suggest that Edge is now the second most used web browser on the planet. In fact, the Microsoft-designed app had surged to almost 7.6 percent of the
market in March and with Microsoft rumoured to be pushing the latest version of Edge out to almost all of its Windows 10 users automatically that number could grow at a rapid rate.
Windows 10 is now used by a billion devices so you can see why Google sees Edge as such a threat to its dominance.
Despite its giant market share Google is clearly not resting on its laurels with the firm appearing to be targeting Edge users in a bid to win them back.

As spotted by TechDows, its seems Google is sending out messages to users when it spots they've logged into their Gmail accounts via the Microsoft-powered browser.
The note then urges them to give Chrome a try instead with it saying: "Hi, you’ve just signed in on a new computer. Make most of Windows 10 with Chrome browser. Chrome is a fast, simple, and
secure browser built for the modern web. Download Chrome”
Not to be outdone, Microsoft is also now targeting Chrome users with a similar plug for Edge.
The team at Bleeping Computer has recently noticed that ads keep popping up for Edge when you search for a rival browser in Windows 10.

Typing Chrome into the Start Menu sees users faced with a message urging them to give Edge a try instead.
According to Bleeping Computer, these ads can't be removed or disabled which might not go down that well with all Windows 10 fans but it might be something they have to get used to.
We will have to wait and see what happens in the war of the web browsers but is seems Chrome and Edge will be battling it out for the foreseeable future.
