The experts at Wren Kitchens said: “Cleaning an oven can be a bit of a chore, and always remember, it’s a good idea to consult your oven’s user manual for specific cleaning instructions or
any precautions to take. “Start by turning your oven off and make sure it is completely cool before starting the cleaning process, removing any racks or trays from the appliance. “One
effective solution is to make a homemade paste using baking soda and water. Mix about half a cup of baking soda with water to form a thick paste.” Baking soda can be purchased for as little
as £2 a box which will be able to clean the oven four times, equating to each oven clean costing 50p. Alternatively, there are many commercial oven cleaners on the market, including Oven
Pride’s Deep Cleaner for around £3.50 from Tesco or Oven Brite’s £2.50 cleaner from Wilko. Make sure to always follow the instructions on the product label while ventilating the area
properly when using commercial cleaners. Start by putting gloves on and using a brush or sponge to apply the mixture to the interior surfaces of the oven. Britons should focus on areas with
built-up grease and grime, while avoiding any of the heating elements or other sensitive components. The experts added: “Once you’ve applied the cleaning solution, let it sit for a while.
Baking soda paste can be left overnight, while commercial cleaners usually require a shorter time. “This step helps loosen the accumulated grease and grime and make it easier to remove.
After the cleaning solution has had time to work, use a scrub brush or sponge to gently scrub the interior surfaces of the oven. “Pay extra attention to stubborn stains and baked-on residue.
Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe away the cleaning solution and residue. “Rinse the cloth or sponge frequently to ensure you’re not spreading the dirt around. You may need to repeat this
step several times until all the residue is gone.” If your oven racks are particularly greasy, make sure to clean them separately by soaking them in warm, soapy water, ideally in the bath.
Scrub them with a brush or sponge before rinsing thoroughly and drying them completely before placing them back in the appliance. The kitchen pros noted: “Once the interior is clean, dampen
a clean cloth or sponge with water and wipe down all surfaces to remove any remaining cleaning solution residue. To prevent any moisture-related issues, ensure that the oven is completely
dry before turning it back on. “Avoid using abrasive cleaners, such as harsh scouring powders or steel wool, as they can scratch and damage the oven’s surfaces, including the interior walls,
glass and heating elements. “Bleach is another product that should be avoided when cleaning ovens. It can damage the oven’s surfaces and release harmful fumes when exposed to heat.”
