Anton du beke: five things i can't live without

1 - FATHERHOOD I never imagined I would enjoy being a dad as much as I actually do. The best time of the day for me is when I go into the twins’ room first thing in the morning and watch

them smiling and cooing in their cots. When I’m away with work, I spend a lot of time video-messaging Hannah and the twins. Although they’re both still so young, it is wonderful seeing their

little faces light up when they see me on the screen. Neither twin is crawling yet and people tell me to make the most of this but I am excited about each new stage of their development.

The two of them are endlessly fascinating. 2 - GOLF CLUBS There is nothing more enjoyable than a round of golf and I’m fortunate to have played on some of the world’s most beautiful courses

over the years. The great thing about golf is that wherever you play, the surroundings are usually exquisite. You’ll either be surrounded by woodland or close to the sea. My favourite course

of all time has to be Pebble Beach in Carmel, California, which is breathtaking. Hannah and I played there together once and we’d both love to go back one day. Golf is an incredibly

sociable game and I really miss the regular rounds I used to enjoy with the late Sir Bruce Forsyth. However as much as I enjoy the camaraderie and banter of a good game, I do have a handicap

and am pretty competitive so I definitely play to win. 3 - TOP HAT AND CANE I love dressing up in my dancing gear and I am always happiest when I’m out there in front of an audience.

Neither of my parents were performers so I’m not really sure where my passion for dance comes from. I didn’t start ballroom until I was about 14. It instantly became an obsession as it

encouraged my competitive side and I have always enjoyed putting on a show. 4 - COFFEE POT I have this little silver coffee pot that produces the most marvellous coffee and I take it with me

wherever I go. It’s great because all I need to do is fill it with ground coffee beans and put it on the hob and I have a deliciously strong cup of coffee. And once I have had it I feel

ready to tackle anything. 5 - LUCKY CUFFLINKS I am not normally a particularly sentimental person but I have a pair of lucky cufflinks that I have worn in every ballroom competition and

performance since my teens. I would be devastated if I ever lost them. They were a present from my uncle to my father but I nabbed them as a teenager and decided to make them part of my

dance attire. They are a very plain silver pair and I’m sure they have limited monetary value but I am ridiculously attached to them and I can’t imagine getting on stage without them. _Anton
