M&s plans to close all stores on boxing day

M&S usually only closes its doors on Christmas Day with Boxing Day being one of the biggest money-makers for all retailers as they slash prices in a bid to get stock off their shelves.

This year, however, the popular big brand is following in Morrisons footsteps and giving staff an extra day off work as they will reopen on Monday 27, December instead. Considering many

shops were not open on Boxing Day last year, it is a bold move from M&S to join Morrisons in giving employees a paid day off. The brands Chief Executive, Steve Rowe wrote to the

company’s 70,000 strong workforce to tell them they don’t need to come in the day after Christmas. “Up and down the country, our colleagues have been there for our customers in the most

challenging of circumstances,” he said. “As a small thank you for their incredible hard work, we’ve taken the decision to close our operations on Boxing Day once again this year. READ MORE:

with family, friends and other loved ones”. Unlike M&S, the supermarket kept its stores open on Boxing Day last year. Those that worked chose to on a voluntary basis and got double pay.
