What went wrong? Body language expert claims Kate and Meghan show ‘no bonding at all’

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton both looked stunning yesterday at a reception with Prince Charles, the Queen and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

They attended with their husbands Prince William, 37, and Prince Harry, 34.

All eyes were on the two women as rumours of a royal rift have followed them since before Christmas.

Meghan and Kate’s feud rumbled on, with a stylist dubbing Kate “the winner” in the style stakes. How has their body language changed since their first appearance together?

On Christmas Day 2016 Kate seemed keen to welcome Meghan into the Royal Family.

The royals broke with tradition by inviting the American actress to spend Christmas with them before she had married Prince Harry.

Judi James told Express.co.uk: “This was their first outing together and everyone was keen to decipher the dynamics of the two couples and although there were no overt displays of eye

contact, tie signs or touch to suggest Kate and Meghan were going full-pelt into a fast-track friendship, all four looked keen to suggest their line-up was now complete, with Meghan standing

between Harry and William and with Meghan and Kate using mirrored poses in a way that suggests rapport or like-minded thinking.”

Judi explained the whole group appeared to by in harmony on the festive occasion.

“In terms of intentional gestures there were strong implications of the formation of ‘The Fab Four’ here, with Kate, William, Meghan and Harry lining up like soldiers on parade with wide,

relaxed smiles on the two women’s faces.”

However, there is a fairly drastic change in the way the two women presented yesterday.

Rift rumours have been rife in recent months, despite what Judi claims were attempts to heal ties last summer and last Christmas.

She said: “Kate and Meghan’s relationship appeared to take several twists and turns as we saw them present a growing friendship at Wimbledon while hearing rumours of a fall-out on the

build-up to the wedding.

“There was the over-congruent display of camaraderie at Chirstmas, when Kate clearly took it upon herself to step away from William’s side to walk next to her sister-in-law, chatting and

smiling, with Meghan even placing her hand on Kate’s back as they stood together."

While this event could have been an opportunity to prove their friendship, Judi claims it was not.

She said: “This most recent appearance might possibly have built on that display, with the two couples looking more relaxed and maybe even having a little fun together in the style William

and Harry were always known for, but instead it was this shot that was released, showing no body language bonding at all.

“Kate and William appear to take their place just behind the Queen and Charles and Camilla while Meghan arrives in the room to one side from the group with Harry arriving behind.

“Whether it’s a trick of the camera angle or not, Meghan looks slightly isolated here, with a rather sweet smile on her face and her bag lifted and clutched with two hands over her baby

bump.”

Meghan Markle wore a £2.2k outfit at the Queen’s Buckingham Palace gala. 

The Duchess’s coat was the Amanda Wakeley Cream ‘Crombie’ Coat, which costs £903.66 ($1,190) from Orchard Mile.

Kate Middleton wore a dress from Beluah London in a pretty blue hue. 

She wore her hair in her classic big bouncy curls, which hung loose over her shoulders.

The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.

It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.

Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.

Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.

The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.

Prince Charles, 70, is currently second-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 37, his oldest son.

Then comes Prince William’s children, George, five, Charlotte, three, and Louis, almost one, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 37.
