Growing and maintaining plants over the summer can be a daunting task for many gardeners.  Fortunately, experts at Yell have shared their professional advice to help ensure your blooms reach

their full potential this growing season.  Their research has identified several popular blooms - sunflowers, irises, and peonies—that each have unique needs.  Understanding these

requirements is crucial to prevent widespread damage in your garden. SUNFLOWERS Growing sunflowers from seeds is relatively easy, but without proper care, their yellow blooms might harm

surrounding foliage.  Yell experts warn that sunflowers secrete an allelopathic chemical that inhibits the growth of nearby plants.  "Make sure that you put sunflowers far away from

your other plants to avoid stunted growth," they advise.  Incorrect placement could cause the perishing of other plants and vegetables. If unsure which plants grow well together,

consult your local gardening expert to avoid mishaps. PEONIES Peonies are also relatively easy to grow and can survive for more than 50 years with proper care.  The key to their longevity

lies in how they are planted. Yell experts emphasize the importance of planting peony roots at the correct depth.  "There should be no more than about an inch of soil covering the

uppermost roots," they note.  Planting them deeper can result in a robust plant with very few flowers. Ensuring the correct planting depth will help your peonies thrive and produce

abundant blooms. IRISES The Royal Horticultural Society highlights irises as some of the earliest flowers to bloom and among the easiest to grow.  Whether in containers or open gardens,

irises are hardy and will provide colors for years to come.  Yell experts share a popular planting hack circulating on social media to make the process easier.  "To plant your irises,

create an 'X' in the soil with your shovel," they said.  "This allows you to gently and more easily lift the dirt and plant the iris firmly and quickly in the

ground."  This simple technique can save time and effort while ensuring your irises are properly planted.
