An automotive personality has shared a common driving habit that frustrates him each time he uses a popular road that can cause congestion. Grant runs the YouTube channel Scottish Car Clan,

regularly posting videos in which he offers advice to help drivers save money and reacts to the latest developments in the motoring world. In a recent video, Grant shares one of his biggest

bugbears on a particular single-carriageway road where many drivers travel slower than the speed limit. He explained: "So, I travel this road fairly frequently. It's the A9 in

Scotland, for anyone who knows it. It's national speed limit, 60mph for most of it, and it's a couple of hundred miles long. Most people, though, tend to sit at 50mph and

there's no way of getting around them. "I think I've figured out why they do that, because most modern cars have speed recognition. That's when the car reads the speed

sign and shows it on the clock [speedometer], so they end up just sticking to whatever it shows." All new cars are fitted with a traffic sign recognition system, which displays the

current speed limit for the road on the instrument panel in a bid to cut speeding tickets and accidents. However, many of the systems currently seen on cars are far from perfect, sometimes

confusing the current speed limit with signs for different roads. Grant stated that many drivers are seemingly unaware that these systems are not always perfect, advising motorists to stay

alert for speed signs to prevent causing problems for other road users. In this case, Grant stated that the speed limit recognition systems are picking up signs that are only meant to be

followed by truck drivers. He added: "The reason they're doing 50mph is because of these signs for trucks, trucks are limited to 50mph on this road. "But, car drivers read it,

think it's for them, and now we're all doing 50mph." When travelling on any road, it is vital that motorists keep a close eye out for any speed limit signs themselves to

prevent facing serious penalties. This includes indications of certain limits on roads, such as a national speed limit sign for single or dual carriageways, or lamp posts on a residential

street, which is usually used to indicate a 30mph zone. Whilst speeding penalties typically depend on the road in question and how much the driver was exceeding the limit, motorists could

face fines of anywhere up to £2,500.
