The BMW Group, Renault Group, Hyundai Motor Group and Stellantis, who represent brands such as Peugeot and Vauxhall, all declined to sign the electric car agreement. Toyota and Volkswagen

also declined to sign despite months of negotiations, according to AutoCar. They said this would “differ from region to region” depending on political decisions and investment in local

infrastructure. They said: “The Glasgow declaration calls for automotive manufacturers to work towards reaching 100 percent zero-emission new car and van sales in leading markets by 2035 or

earlier, supported by a business strategy that is in line with achieving this ambition. "The Volkswagen Group is fully committed to a rapid transformation of its portfolio to battery

electric vehicles as the primary means to achieve zero-emission vehicles. “Consequently, Volkswagen has built its new corporate NEW AUTO strategy all around the transformation of its

business towards zero emissions. DON'T MISS ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING SYSTEM TO BE GIVEN HUGE £1.9BILLION INVESTMENT [INSIGHT] WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AN ELECTRIC CAR RUNS OUT OF CHARGE?

[ANALYSIS] BREXIT BOOM AS BRITISH FIRMS SELL MORE ELECTRIC CARS [COMMENT] “While transformative speed is of the essence, the pace of transformation will still differ from region to region

(Europe, US, South America, China…), depending, among other factors, on local political decisions driving EV and infrastructure investments. “Furthermore, we believe that an accelerated

shift to electromobility has to go in line with an energy transition towards 100 percent renewables.“While the overall global goal of reaching zero emissions in line with the Paris Agreement

is non-negotiable, regions developing at different speed combined with different local prerequisites need different pathways towards zero emissions. “Therefore, the Volkswagen Group,

representing business activities in all major-markets worldwide, decided not to sign the declaration at this point in time.” Stellantis added: “Building upon the EV Day momentum, Stellantis

has already 14 BEV and 14 PHEV models available for its customers and Intensifies Electrification with a comprehensive plan supported by more than €30 billion through 2025 in electrification

and software development.
