The returning quintet - Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Lisa Scott-Lee and Lee Latchford-Evans - took just hours after their release to rocket to the summit of the in-house

bestseller list.

The track dethroned Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran, one of many tracks from his new album Divide to be peppered throughout the rundown.

Whether or not Scared Of The Dark can make a sizeable splash on the main Official Chart depends on how much momentum it can maintain throughout the week - and whether its popularity on the

download store can be matched with streams.

For now, though, it seems to be a deserved cause for celebration amongst the band members, who also released tickets for their new tour today.

Latchford-Evans tweeted: “Oh my God!!!!!!! No1 on @itunesmusic Amazing!!!!!”

In a video posted to his page, Watkins could be seen with the other members celebrating in an elevator.

Tozer in particular looked emotional as she said: “We’re number one on iTunes!”

There had been initial concern over how well the group’s tour would sell, after Bros were forced earlier this week to cancel the vast majority of their own nostalgia jaunt.

But with new album Tears On The Dancefloor due for release in April, it seems Steps have nothing to worry about after all.

As for Sheeran, he is expected to heavily dominate both the singles and albums charts when they are confirmed by BBC Radio One later today.
