Families risk losing £7,000 worth of childcare under a labour government

It has been over a year since Labour claimed they were going to come forward with a policy for childcare so transformational that it would be ‘like the creation of the NHS’.  And still they

have come forward with no plan. But they have now confirmed one thing: that they would scrap our 30 hours of free childcare offer for working parents. An offer that will save millions of

hard-working parents thousands of pounds a year, providing them with the certainty and financial security to start and raise a family.   The beginning of April marks the first phase of our

roll-out, with over 150,000 parents of two-year-olds set to benefit from next week. This bombshell admission by Labour will cost working parents £6,900 per year, creating huge uncertainty

for families. By refusing to continue our plans, Labour are pulling the rug out from under parents’ plans to grow their families, take on promotions, or return to work. In fact, the

independent Office for Budget Responsibility has said that our childcare rollout will mean that 60,000 more parents will be able to get back into work. The opportunity and choice our offer

gives to hard-working parents will be taken away by Labour who would scrap our plans without providing any alternatives other than yet another review.  Labour once again prove they have no

plan and under Labour families will be financially worse off. Over a million families are already benefitting from free childcare today, after this Conservative Government expanded the offer

to 30 hours for 3 and 4 year olds in 2017 even before our expansion which is starting next week. We know childcare isn’t a priority for the Labour Party. In Wales, where they have the run

the system, they have cut their childcare funding by over £17 million. That is in stark contrast to England where this Conservative Government is making the largest investment in childcare

in our country’s history totalling over £8 billion per year once it is fully rolled out.  It’s only the Conservatives that have a plan to support hard-working parents, to give them the peace

of mind and security to grow their families and build a brighter future.
