TV chef James Martin has revealed he now lives on a nutritious fish-based diet after being left embarrassed due to his health and fitness. Opening up about the issue to Mark Wogan on his

Spooning podcast for Virgin Radio UK, James admitted that before overhauling his diet, he had struggled to get out of his beloved race cars. Quizzing the Saturday Morning star on his daily

meals, host Mark said: “It’s really fish and butter for you nowadays, isn’t it?” To which James confirmed: “Well, it is.” Explaining his lifestyle change, James continued: “You get to a

certain age where… it actually comes from the fact that I used to race cars. “I still try and race a few cars, and I actually struggle to get out of them now! Getting in them - you sort of

just fall in them - but then you’ve got to get out of them, and it just doesn’t look very good. So I’ve decided I mainly eat fish - and it’s worked!” Mark empathised: “Like yourself, I’m a

man of a certain age, and - given my frame - if I walk past a potato, I’ll put on about a kilo. It’s not easy to maintain, is it?” James agreed: “It’s not! I don’t go to the gym, but it

comes down to the fact, basically, of getting my a**e in and out of a car. “I walk miles anyway in the restaurant, it’s a lot of running around. I’ve got a bike, I cycle,” he added of his

fitness routine. However, James’ preferred method of transport is the car, with the celebrity chef owning an enviable motors collection - including a classic Ferrari and a legendary Colin

McRae rally car. The star told Mark that he is healthy in other ways, as he doesn’t drink much alcohol and avoids smoking, apart from the occasional cigar. Fans have been worried about

James’ health recently, after he had to have surgery to remove facial cancer. Thankfully, the star gave viewers a positive update on his condition during an appearance on ITV back in April,

telling host Lorraine Kelly: “As we speak, the stitches have fallen out of my body at the moment and that’s all clear. Onwards and upwards!” _JAMES MARTIN'S SATURDAY MORNING AIRS TODAY
