Huddersfield Town boss Lee Grant insists the club are not going to “rush” their decision as to whether to appoint a new sporting director. The Terriers have been without a sporting director

since April, with Mark Cartwright sacked from the position after 20 months in the role. Upon Grant’s appointment on Wednesday, the 42-year-old has been named as manager, rather than the head

coach title of predecessor Michael Duff, indicating that the new boss will play a greater role in the Terriers’ recruitment. Responding to a question from a supporter on X, Town owner Kevin

Nagle said that the club are currently “interviewing” for the role, with Nottingham Forest director of football Ross Wilson having been linked with the position. However, Grant insisted at

his first press conference that no decision had yet been made as to whether Town will operate with a sporting director moving forward, saying: “These are things that the football club, over

the course of short and medium term, need to really dive into, and assess and understand. “We’re still settling into a new manager, we’re going to be settling into a good chunk of a new

squad as well. We’ve seen people leave, and we’re going to see people come in the door, so there’s plenty of flux, there’s plenty of work to be done. Some of the dust needs to settle on some

of that. “It’s for me, for Jake (Edwards, CEO) and Kevin to really put our heads together to assess how this needs to look structurally, and how this can serve us all really well. There’s

plenty of skills within the building right now to make sure we’re in a good place come the start of the season, that’s the focus right now. “What we do going forward from that point is

really important. It’s important we get those decisions right, but I’d like to think everybody externally can see from the decisions that the club have taken, particularly in appointing a

young manager, it feels different, it feels like a step change for the football club. “I think people can rest assured that due process and due diligence is happening, good governance, all

of that stuff is happening to a really high level at the football club, and key decisions will be made accordingly to leave the football club in a really good position structurally. “We need

to make those decisions (whether to appoint a sporting director), we need to be clear on it. We need to be clear on what works for Jake, Kevin and myself, and we certainly need time to do

that effectively. That’s not a decision we’re going to rush or push ourselves on.” Grant’s backroom staff are also yet to be confirmed, but the new boss stated that an announcement on those

incoming personnel isn’t far away. “We’re really close to being able to give you some more on that, but in terms of the support that the club have given me to bring in the right people, and

we’re talking about people that are top developers, that’s what’s going to be on offer,” said Grant. “I’m really excited to be able to give you that. I can’t quite give you the whole package

yet, I’d love to give you it right now but I want to give it to you all in one piece, so we’ll get that across to you as soon as we can, and that’ll be an exciting one for the players as

well I’m sure.” SUBSCRIBE TO THE HUDDERSFIELD TOWN NEWSLETTER Never miss a breaking story again. By subscribing to Yorkshire Live's HTAFC newsletter, you'll get daily updates with
