An “obsessive” stalker who was found hiding behind a door at his ex's home has been jailed for 30 months. Bradford Crown Court heard on Monday that the woman was so scared of Adam

Schlitzke that she screamed when she saw him and a police officer had to hold the communal door shut while she rushed back into her flat. It was said that the officer then drew his PAVA

spray as the 36-year-car mechanic tried to force open the door during the terrifying incident in February. Prosecutor Thomas Theakston said as the officer opened the door Schlitzke lunged at

him and he was sprayed in the eyes. Despite being handcuffed drunken Schlitzke continued to be aggressive during his arrest and he was shouting and spitting in the back of the police van.

The court heard that a “spit-hood” was used when Schlitzke was in a holding cell, but he still tried to kick out at one of the officers. In December last year Schlitzke, of no fixed abode,

was given a community order with rehabilitation activity requirement days and unpaid for stalking his ex-partner and he was also made the subject of a restraining order. But less than two

months later he was he turned up at her flat door in the early hours and began knocking while was asleep inside. When the woman refused to let him in he kicked the door and left, but later

that morning, when the woman left her dog out, Schlitzke brazenly walked in uninvited and refused to leave her bedroom. Mr Theakston said the woman was too scared to call the police and when

she left to go to a friend’s house the defendant followed her and shouted at her. Later that day Schlitzke turned up at her flat again and when she threatened to call the police he took off

his jacket and said: ”Call them. I’ll fight them.” When two police officers did arrive at the premises the woman asked them to check the hallways because she believed her ex was still

hiding somewhere in the building and Schlitzke was found hiding behind a door leading to a stairwell. Schlitzke eventually pleaded guilty to offences of harassment, common assault of an

emergency worker, breaching the restraining order and possession of a small amount of cannabis. Recorder David Kelly jailed him for 27 months, but he also revoked the previous community

order and sentenced Schlitzke to an extra three months in prison for the stalking offence. The judge said the original stalking offence arose out of the defendant’s “obsessive belief” that

his ex was in a relationship with another man. He added: "These offences were committed during the currency of a community order that was supposed to assist in your rehabilitation.” In

her victim impact statement the complainant described how she had suffered depression, anxiety and panic attacks and had been unable to work. She said: "I’m scared that one day he will

hurt me or some other person because of me. I’m scared that when he gets bail the situation will be the same." GET BREAKING NEWS IN YORKSHIRE STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE Get all the latest
