As the mercury is set to rise, Brits are being advised to keep their windows shut for a crucial reason. The weather has been fluctuating over the past few weeks, but summer-like conditions

are expected, with forecasters predicting temperatures of up to 25C by 12 June. While the south of England will experience most of the heat, other regions in the UK will also see an increase

in temperature. Bearing this in mind, keeping your windows shut can help prevent your home from becoming excessively hot. WXCHARTS' weather maps indicate that on 12 June, London and

the east of England will see temperatures ranging between 21C and 25C. In the Midlands, temperatures around 23C are expected, while in the north, they will hover between 12C and 15C. For

Wales, the weather will range from 12C to 19C, and in Scotland, it will vary between 11C and 15C, reports the Express. On 13 June, the warm weather will persist, with temperatures across the

UK varying between 13C and 22C. With the UK currently enjoying intense sunshine in May, our homes are heating up, posing a challenge to the high insulation designed for our typically chilly

British winters. This means households nationwide are being urged to take steps to keep their indoor spaces cool during these sunny spells. Energy experts are providing valuable advice on

how to keep our homes cool during a heatwave without breaking the bank. OVO Energy has issued a counterintuitive warning for those looking to beat the heat, advising: "Tempting as it is

to fling open the windows at the first sign of summer, it's not actually the best idea. To keep your house cool, you need to keep the hot air out." The energy firm suggests

keeping windows firmly shut, especially noting: "This means keeping windows closed during the day - particularly south-facing windows." They also recommend: "Keep curtains,

blinds and windows shut when the sun is shining directly on them, and when you're out. Try opening windows on the most shaded side of your home, to avoid sunlight and hot air getting

in." Andy Kerr from BOXT highlights the structural challenge British homes face during a heatwave, as they are designed to hold heat rather than dispel it. Despite common practices,

Andy warns that typical cooling methods might not be as effective as hoped, stating: "Getting rid of unwanted heat in your home can be difficult in the summer months, especially when

most UK properties are built to retain heat." He adds a critical perspective on popular beliefs, saying: "While grabbing a fan or opening up all your windows are often mentioned as

effective ways to cool your home, these methods may not result in the desired results. "To help homeowners keep cool as the warmer months approach, we have revealed which common home

cooling hacks are myths and why they don't work so you can avoid them this summer. When temperatures are particularly warm, opening up all your windows will let more hot air into your

home, heating up your home and making you feel warmer. "Instead of opening all your windows, it is much better to strategically open windows to create cross breezes throughout the day

and open your windows during the night to let cooler air in." _GET ALL THE LATEST AND BREAKING NEWS IN YORKSHIRE BY __SIGNING UP TO OUR NEWSLETTER HERE._
