North yorkshire nature reserve fire latest as smoke seen from 10 miles away

A fire has broke out at a North Yorkshire Nature Reserve with smoke from the blaze seen from 10 miles away. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have sent out a warning to members of the public

to avoid the Strensall Common area, near York as they are currently tackling a fire there. Crews were alerted to the fire around 3.30pm today (Tuesday, May 20) and think they could be on

site 'for a while'. According to North Yorkshire Weather updates, farmers have been seen carrying lambs out of the area. A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said:

"We were called at around 3.30pm to reports of a fire on Strensall Common. "This now a make pumps 8 incident with crews working hard to try and prevent the fire spreading further.
