Join us on WhatsAppA 16-year-old killed in a hit-and-run has been named locally as Abdullah Yaha Al-Zaidy, in a statement released by a councillor.
It is understood that a grey Audi drove towards three electric bikes, hitting one rider. As the car continued on after hitting the e-bike, it then ran over Abdullah, who is understood to
have been walking from his family's shop just down the road in Staniforth Road in Darnall. The driver of the Audi fled the scene.
Paramedics raced to the scene at 4.50pm and rushed Abdullah to hospital but there was nothing they could do to save him and he died a short time later. Police have said he was an "innocent
bystander who was simply going about his daily business".
This afternoon, South Yorkshire Police confirmed a 20-year-old man had been arrested in Kent on suspicion of murder. Last night (4 June) a 45-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were
arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. This morning a 36-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three remain in custody.
The rider of the electric bike, an 18-year-old man suffered serious injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening. He remains in hospital.
