Residents are trying to raise money after six houses in Barnsley caught fire. South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene and helped put out the fire, but the houses were left

devastated. As a result, many people have lost everything. The fire took place on Woodland Drive and is believed to have started at around 3:45pm and spread rapidly. One resident, Sophie

Wilson, said: "I walked out the door and saw it going up at 3.45pm. READ MORE: HUDDERSFIELD SUPERMARKET AISLES BARRICADED OFF WITH FRIDGES AND FREEZES SHUT AND AISLES COMPLETELY BARE

"I rang 999 and they were already aware but took one hour to get there, police arrived almost straight away to evacuate everyone. "It’s still on going to try get it put out,

it's four houses at the front and two behind." Now, the local tea shop, The Twisted Teapot, is trying to raise money to help some of the people who lost their homes. They said:

“They've managed to contain the fire but the houses are completely destroyed. People have been left with nothing. “Let show them the Barnsley community spirit and raise them a bit of

much needed cash, whether it be short term accommodation or to help them rebuild.” Many of the homes were completely destroyed with little but a frame left behind. There has not yet been any

reports of casualties. A resident at the scene told YorkshireLive nobody had been hurt, but that one resident had a lucky escape when the fire broke their windows. Local Councillor Chris

Wray tweeted out his support for the fundraiser as well. He said: “A massive thank you to @SYFR for their amazing work in my ward in #Barnsley. Sadly, there's a lot of damage but

there's already been an amazing response on Just Giving - https://justgiving.com/crowdfunding/woodland-drive-fire?utm_term=Gqa268V94… “I want to thank everybody, everywhere, who looks

out for others. It fills the heart.” You can access the fundraising page here to support anyone affected. READ NEXT:
