Customers of Octopus Energy have been left perplexed by a significant alteration to their loyalty scheme discount. The energy firm has shifted from offering weekly codes for complimentary
hot drinks to dishing them out on a daily basis through its Octoplus scheme, reports Birmingham Live. Octopus, which competes with EDF, EON Next, Ovo, and British Gas, now allows UK
households to redeem the codes for beverages at Greggs or Caffe Nero granting one code per customer each week via Octoplus. A frustrated user took to Reddit, stating: "The old system
wasn't perfect, but at least the Nero vouchers were usually still available throughout the day on Monday." They explained that now vouchers are mainly "for those who get up at
6am now" and lamented: "Now they are limited to people who get up very early in the morning, and are all gone by the time of the later risers." Another Redditor noted:
"The free Caffe Nero drinks get snapped up so fast now." They missed the previous system as it allowed them to pick up "I used to be able to get the free Cafe Nero drink as
late as Tuesday morning if I forgot (sometimes even later than that). Now, it's Monday morning and my app says that all the codes have already been redeemed." Sharing their recent
experience, one Reddit member remarked: "I'm trying to get a code now. It's 8.40am and all the codes for Neros and Greggs are gone." They expressed disappointment,
mentioning: "Haven't had a code for months, whereas I used to be able to pop on at any time of day and get one." Echoing this sentiment, another voiced their issue:
"Seems like everyone is having issues getting the Octoplus free hot drinks now ever since the switch to daily codes." One customer shared: "I've been up pretty late or
awake early to try and catch a new batch of codes but there doesn't seem to be a set time for new codes? I'm only able to get a code on Sundays maybe once or twice a month, (and
it's usually been a Greggs), where I was able to just claim and use my codes on every Monday with no issues before." They continued: "I dont want to play into the conspiracy
that they've just reduced the amount of codes secretly, but for one of the few usable benefits thats usually saved me £16 a month on coffee, I'm having to consider if there's
other ways to save this much against my energy bills." A separate individual stated: "I used to love getting my weekly cafe Nero drink but over the past couple of months the drinks
have been sold out on the app every time I try to get one." They then asked: "Is there a best time to check to get the code? I thought Sundays but they're still often gone
when I look."
