Birch said those last-minute jobs included putting rubber matting over the power lines, putting out rubbish bins, looking for hazards, logistics and putting out wasp traps.

“For me in the past week there has been lots of networking and interviews, cleaning toilets and showers, setting up tea [for the volunteers] and programming cash registers,” Ms Birch said.

“About 85 per cent of exhibitors are here now, with some of the craft exhibitors coming in the morning,” she said.

Channel 7’s Sunrise breakfast program will broadcast from Agfest on Thursday and the Tasmanian Governor Kate Warner will also attend.

“I have to be up at 3.30am for Sunrise. I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight with the hype of all this,” Ms Birch said.

The Agfest committee comprises 53 directors and assistants, and a further 53 volunteers take the field day staff over 100.
