to New Year’s Eve, with $40 million tipped to be spent on Boxing Day alone, according to a survey by the Retail Council.

Launceston Chamber of Commerce president Tim Holder said that businesses expected strong Boxing Day sale results, which he attributed to growing confidence with investment, improvements in
the tourism sector and “a growing confidence that Tasmania is heading in the right direction”.
“Despite some seasonal figures that are concerning, the longer-term trends are positive,” he said.
