10 at Prospect High and Jones,16, a Kings Meadows grade 10, were picked in the level one squad for players selected from the national under-16 championships.


The AFL academy scholarship recipients come together for accelerated football and personal development camps to be held in Australia and overseas over the next 12 months. 


“I was a bit shocked and speechless when I found out but it is going to be a good experience,” Thomas said who was voted the state’s MVP at the championships and is being touted as a certain


2018  AFL draft prospect, already attracting interest from clubs.


“I thought about it but didn’t know if I was a chance but I am looking forward to improving and getting experience with the better players in Australia my age,” Jones said. Both will play


with the Tassie Mariners next season.
