Two of England’s Masters teams put on a delightful show in front of adoring spectators and a local councillor at an event in Dawlish.
Four games were played between 20-22 October at Dawlish College, with England O70 men’s team participating alongside an England ‘Allstars’ XI made up of those aged 70 and above. Also in
action were Wales men’s O70s and a representative West O65s men’s team too.
Played across a glorious autumnal weekend, the England O70s enjoyed a 5-0 victory over Wales before beating the West O65s team 2-0. The ‘Allstars’ team were defeated 4-2 by the West in their
first game before the drew 1-1 with Wales.
The matches were watched keenly by pupils from the school as well as Cllr Val Mawhood, a member of the Dawlish Parish Council who even managed to play – and score – for the England
‘Allstars’ team in their match against the West O65s.
As well as showcasing that anyone of any age can play the sport, the event was also a celebration for Ben Rea, thanking him for his continued work managing the England men’s O70s team.
In addition, the event also saw more than £1,000 raised for Derriford Hospital and another £7,000 of kit was donated which will be shared among clubs and schools in the area.
