that she hailed an autorickshaw – she provided the registration number as MH 04 2612 – outside Vasai West railway station around 11.30 pm and asked the driver to be taken to Vasai Gaon,

where she lives. Just before they reached Umela Phata, the auto driver changed the route and abruptly stopped at dark and desolate spot near the salt pans dotting Naigaon. The driver got off

the auto saying the vehicle had stopped on its own. "When the girl questioned him about the sudden change in the route, the driver said that he had to finish some work and would drop

her as soon as possible. After a while, he stopped the auto and said it was either because of some technical glitch or the three-wheeler had run out of gas," said an officer from

Manickpur police station. "Suddenly, he came close to her. Fearing the man was up to some mischief, girl started walking on the road. However, the auto driver pinned her down, molested

her and tried to disrobe her," said the policeman. The young girl somehow managed to escape from the pervert's clutches and approached the police. "We have registered a case

for molestation and assault under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act," said Ganesh Shinde, senior inspector of Manickpur police

station. Shinde added, "Our detection team is on the job and we will arrest him soon."
