some of the topics that are being discussed at the 'Power for all by 2012' roundtable organised by school of petroleum management (SPM), Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University
(PDPU) on Friday and Saturday. According to roundtable coordinator, Prof Sudhir Yadav, "The objective of this roundtable is to provide a platform for deliberations on the managerial
and techno-commercial challenges of the rapidly growing power sector in India." The roundtable will cover power trading in the competitive power market; investment in power sector -
risk and return perspective; project management challenges in power sector and role of equipment manufacturers and consultants. Present for the roundtable were Prof NR Dave, educational
advisor, Prof Bhavesh Patel, director of SPM, VS Verma from CERC and the guest of honour, Dr Ketan Shukla, secretary of Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission. Dr Shukla said, "The
installed power generation capacity in the country has increased from about 1,400 MW in 1947 to 1,63,669.80 MW as on July 31, 2010. This comprises 37,033.40 MW - hydro power; 1,05,646.98 MW
- thermal power including gas & diesel; 4,560 MW of nuclear-based power plants and 16,429.42 MW from renewable energy sources, including wind." "During the 12th 5-year plan it
is envisaged 12,483 MW capacity will be added by March 31, 2017. Resultantly, the installed capacity in Gujarat would be 30,479 MW which implies growth rate of 10%," he added.
