From the time she started in the industry, Shruti Pathak has constantly endeavoured to expand her musical repertoire with new projects. The latest musical offering from her, _Guzzler_, is
what she calls an effort ‘to revisit ghazals with a progressive approach and new sound.” Says the young songstress, “I grew up listening to ghazals. They were an essential part of my
learning process. It’s something very close to my heart and through this album I wanted to bring this musical form to the youth.” She admits that she’s been influenced by many brilliant
musicians like Ustad Mehdi Hassan, Ustad Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, Hariharan and Penaz Massani among others. “While the lyrical content remains the same, the treatment of each track is very
new. I’ve used different new age kind of sounds and westernised the entire production,” she explains. Shruti has written ghazals for the first time, in this album. Aside from this, she was
also part of the MTV Coke Studio last year, a more experimental platform and has worked with Karsh Kale since, as well as collaborated with the Bandish Projekt. “Playback singing is
something I still thoroughly enjoy. I’ve always been learning through singing for films, now I’d like to explore more of my other side which includes writing and composing,” she says.
