Move comes after 4-yr-old fell from 10th floor: Residents blame builder for not putting grills The spot from where the four-year-old fell off Residents of high rise buildings in the

Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad have requested the residential welfare associations to cover the balconies of the buildings. This suggestion has come after a 4-year-old girl fell from the

balcony of her 10th-floor apartment in Jaipuria Sunrise Greens.According to Federation of Association of Apartment Owners (AOA members) of Sunrise Greens, since the mishap took place,

suggestions from the members have come in to cover all the balconies of the society. "Several residents have reached out to the society's maintenance office with a recommendation

to cover all balconies of higher floors. They are ready to pay their share of expenses if the RWA is willing to take up the issue. We have formed a committee and a decision on this will be

taken pretty soon," said Ravindra Saini, member of the society's AOA. He also said that concerns have been voiced in the past about children or maids falling off balconies.

Residents have also alleged that the builder is at fault as they say he should have made grills instead of cemented walls due to the girl climbed on a chair to peep down."Children have

a natural curiosity to look for what is happening in the society. In this case, the balcony from which the girl peeped downstairs was covered, as a result of which she was unable to peep

down. It was then that she brought the chair and the accident occurred," said Smita Pandey, a resident. Asked to comment on the tragic accident an authority official said, "While

giving occupancy certificates to builder we look at basic amenities, lifts and common areas, drainage outlets, parking facilities and parks etc. There are no such rules for the builders as

to how do they design the balcony."
