GOOD MORNING BRITAIN VIEWERS WERE LEFT UNIMPRESSED DURING A HEATED DEBATE ON THURSDAY MORNING SARA BAALLA TV Reporter 08:46, 29 May 2025 Good Morning Britain viewers lodged a complaint
following an "excruciating" debate on Thursday (May 29). On today's episode of the popular ITV show, presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid brought viewers up to speed with the
latest news headlines from across the UK and globally. At one point, they delved into a discussion about the ongoing doctors' strike, following Health Secretary Wes Streeting's
warning that resident doctors could "choke" the NHS by resuming their strike action. In a BBC interview, the MP implored resident doctors to "work with the government",
cautioning that strikes could hinder the progress being made within the NHS. Just last week, it was revealed that resident doctors, previously known as junior doctors, would receive a 5.4%
average pay rise this year - more than other doctors, nurses and teachers, reports Bristol Live. READ MORE: Good Morning Britain faces backlash as baby news leads to Ofcom threatREAD MORE:
ITV Good Morning Britain host shares 'horrific' breaking news minutes into show However, they argue that this increase is insufficient to compensate for below-inflation pay awards
since 2008. On today's GMB, Ed and Susanna were joined by Dr Ross Nieuwoudt from the resident doctors' committee and Reem Ibrahim from the Institute of Economic Affairs to discuss
the matter. "I absolutely believe in markets, but the NHS is not a market, it's a socialised healthcare system. That is the fundamental point. If doctors want to be paid more, then
let's look at a social healthcare system," stated Reem. "Let's look at countries like Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark that have public and private partnerships
where there is competition." She added: "What I would like to see is the National Health Service as a whole, the spending that we're using at the moment, being used more
efficiently." Ross strongly contested this view, asserting: "I think that's a foolish thing to do. A canary in a coal mine is there to alert people of danger, and that's
what the strikes are doing." The debate then escalated as Ed and Susanna jumped in, with tempers flaring all round. Following the fiery discussion, viewers vented their frustration at
the segment's heated atmosphere, with a number disapproving posts surfacing on X (formerly known as Twitter). Article continues below One commenter exclaimed, "Why are they
shouting??" while another questioned, "Why is Ed Balls getting angry here? So unprofessional." Another viewer lamented, "This is excruciating," and one more demanded
answers, saying, "Can you explain please why Ed Balls's questioning and response to the young lady was more aggressive than to the BMA representative. Seems to forget he's
now supposed to be balanced as an interviewer and his political bias as a labour minister put on the back burner." GOOD MORNING BRITAIN AIRS WEEKDAYS ON ITV1 AND ITVX AT 6AM
