SUSANNA REID HAD A WORRYING ANNOUNCEMENT FOR GOOD MORNING BRITAIN VIEWERS ON WEDNESDAY MORNING 08:37, 21 May 2025 Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid delivered a 'breaking
news' update on Wednesday morning. Susanna, along with co-host Richard Madeley, led the ITV morning show through the latest economic developments in the UK. The programme was abuzz with
the revelation that UK inflation has soared to its highest point in over a year. This spike is attributed to the increased energy price cap and hikes in council tax and water bills.
"Good Morning Britain, our breaking news this morning. Official figures have shown UK inflation jumped to its highest level for more than a year, last month," declared Susanna. She
continued, "Figures released in the last few minutes show that figures increased by 3.5 percent in April. That is up sharply from 2.6 percent in March." Richard then weighed in,
"So, that surge follows a rise in the energy price cap as well as higher council tax and higher water bills." He then handed the baton to GMB's senior news correspondent,
Jonathan Swain, who was broadcasting live from a bustling market in Twickenham, reports Bristol Live. Later on, Susanna and Richard delved deeper into the topic of inflation rates,
expressing their dismay. Susanna labelled the fresh statistics "not good news" before asking, "Where is the good news?" and then transitioned to the next segment of GMB.
Following the release of official figures on Wednesday morning, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves expressed her discontent, speaking of her resolve to improve the current economic
situation. "I am disappointed with these figures because I know cost of living pressures are still weighing down on working people," Rachel declared. Further commenting on the
issue, Rachel added, "We are a long way from the double-digit inflation we saw under the previous administration, but I'm determined that we go further and faster to put more money
in people's pockets." She highlighted government actions, stating, "That's why we have increased the minimum wage for millions of working people, frozen fuel duty to
protect commuters, and struck three trade deals in the past two weeks that will go towards cutting bills." In another development, an ONS spokesperson addressed the surge in inflation
with a statement: "Significant increases in household bills caused inflation to climb steeply. Gas and electricity bills rose this month compared with sharp falls at the same time last
year due to changes to the Ofgem energy price cap." Article continues below _GOOD MORNING BRITAIN AIRS ON WEEKDAYS AT 6AM ON ITV1_
