CYBERPUNK 2077 IS STILL TAXING SOME HARDWARE EVEN TODAY, BUT THE GAME'S SEQUEL IS IN DEVELOPMENT AND COULD EXPAND THE SCOPE OF THE FRANCHISE CONSIDERABLY ACCORDING TO ONE DEV 14:29, 21

May 2025 Nintendo Switch 2 will run Cyberpunk 2077 at launch, and that's quite frankly enough to convince us to upgrade from the Switch 1. More people getting to check out Night City is

always welcome, regardless of platform, but there's the small matter of the game's upcoming sequel to get excited about, too. While the first game landed with a thud, packed with

technical issues and bugs that saw it taken off of PlayStation's store, it's grown into a phenomenal RPG that we regularly revisit. So what could a sequel add? According to the

creator of the tabletop RPG that the game is based on, it could be a second city. CYBERPUNK 2077 SEQUEL TO ADD SECOND CITY? As spotted by Eurogamer, Mike Pondsmith, creator of the original

tabletop version of the game, has been discussing the sequel at Digital Dragons in Krakow. Article continues below Noting he's "not as involved directly" with the

sequel—codenamed Project Orion—he still gets to see the project coming together. "Last week," Pondsmith said, "I was wandering around talking to different departments and

seeing what they had. "I spent a lot of time talking to one of the environment guys, and he was explaining how the new place in Orion... because there's another city we visit, and

I'm not telling you any more than that." While that's likely triggered some panic stations within CD Projekt, Pondsmith did go on to share a little more information, saying

"Night City is still there". "I remember looking at [the new location] and going, 'Yeah, I understand the feel that you're going for, and this really does work. It

doesn't feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong'. And I said, 'Yeah, I can see this working.'" Would a Cyberpunk sequel be ambitious enough to

try and include two cities? It's hard to say, but Chicago has long been theorised as having a key role to play in the series. As per Eurogamer again, the in-game version of the city has

been through it all, from economic collapse, to pandemics, and corporate wars, as well as the standard criminality found in Night City, while one ending in Phantom Liberty (the game's

expansion) points to a new rail link between Night City and Chicago. Whatever the case, we're desperate for more Cyberpunk, but it's probably a way away yet. Article continues
