A MAN HAS CLAIMED A DISNEY WATER SLIDE LAUNCHED HIM THROUGH THE RIDE AT 'EXHILARATING SPEED' SO POWERFUL HIS 334LB BODY WAS LEFT 'MOMENTARILY AIRBORNE' CAUSED HIM TO
SUFFER 'CATASTROPHIC INJURIES' 17:38, 02 Jun 2025 A man claims he suffered “catastrophic injuries” on a water ride at Walt Disney World. Eugene Strickland said the
"exhilarating speeds” of the Downhill Double Dipper at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Waterpark were what caused his injuries. Despite being more than 30 pounds over the rides’ weight limit at
the time of the incident – he seeks to win $50,000 in damages from theme park giant. It is currently unclear if Strickland knew about the weight limit before his trip down the slide.
Strickland allegedly became "momentarily airborne" during his journey before losing control of the inner tube he was riding in and eventually landing “with force onto the hard
plastic surface of the slide." Strickland claims he “suffered serious bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, scarring, disfigurement, mental anguish, [and] loss of
capacity for the enjoyment of life,” he claims they are issues he still battles with today according to the suit. He blames the amusement parks’ “exhilarating speeds” as responsible for the
alleged “catastrophic injuries” he sustained. Article continues below Strickland also believes Disney World is directly negligent for failing to establish a safe premises and believes the
company was well aware of the “safety hazard” and “concealed trap” the waterslide presented which contributed to his injuries. According to the suit, Strickland is seeking $50,000 in damages
from the entertainment giant. The Daily Star previously reported on Disney ’s latest plans to open its first theme park in the Middle East – a huge moment for rollercoaster daredevils
across the globe. The new resort, in the UAE on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island, is a collaboration between Walt Disney and the local leisure and entertainment company Miral. Disney already has
resorts across North America, Europe and Asia. Its most recent opening was in Shanghai in 2016. Miral has made Yas Island into a popular tourist destination, and already oversees SeaWorld
and Warner Bros World where it is developing a Harry Potter-themed park. Disney said the UAE was located within a four-hour flight of one-third of the world's population, making it a
"significant gateway for tourism" in a statement. Article continues below It said 120 million passengers travel through Abu Dhabi and Dubai every year, making the Emirates the
biggest global airline hub in the world.
