2025Updated 16:19, 05 Jun 2025 A quarter of Brits say the first thing they’d do if nuclear war kicks off is head down to the pub. A poll of 2,000 Brits found that 24% said their first

reaction to news of an impending nuclear attack would be to go straight to their local boozer. Just 18% said they would try to build a makeshift ‘bunker’, with 14% saying they’d ‘do nothing’

as there was ‘no point’. Researchers asked those taking part what they’d do first if told a nuke was ‘inbound’ within the next hour. Ritchie Harbottle, 29, of Maidstone, Kent, said he’d

down as many tequilas as he could, so he was in ‘oblivion’ when a nuke struck. He said: “What is there to do but just head to the pub and order as many rounds of tequila as you can. “If

you’re going to oblivion in an hour, you might as well be in oblivion for the whole hour, and in my experience tequila is perfect for that.” Article continues below A spokesman for online

entertainment brand Slotozilla - which conducted the poll - said: “We wanted to find out what Brits would do if given an hour’s notice of an incoming nuclear missile. “We found that 24% of

us would head straight to the pub if the government announced a nuclear strike was imminent. “Rather than seeking shelter or following emergency protocols, nearly one in four said they’d

prefer to ‘Go out with a pint in hand’.” Asked who they’d like to spend their final moments with - apart from loved ones, friends and family - David Attenborough came top, followed by singer

Adele. Louis Theroux was in 3rd spot, followed by chef Nigella Lawson and Alison Hammond. A spokesperson for Slotozilla said: “It’s a dark question, but one that reveals a lot about British

attitudes to crisis.” HOW WOULD YOU REACT TO A NUCLEAR ATTACK 1 - Go to the pub - 24% 2 - Build a makeshift ‘bunker’ - 18% 3 - Drive to family - 16% 4 - Do nothing - 15% 5 - Get in the car
