AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER REFUSES TO FLY FROM ONE AIRPORT AFTER SHE CLAIMS 'DOZENS' OF INCIDENTS HAVE TAKEN PLACE OVER THE LAST 10 MONTHS AND WARNS A CRASH COULD HAPPEN SOON 10:29,
21 May 2025Updated 10:30, 21 May 2025 An air traffic controller has revealed the one place they refuse to fly from – and the worrying reason why. The traffic controller, who is currently
anonymous, says they refuse to work from Newark Liberty International Airport and suggest there could soon be dire crashes at the location, according to the Mail. They work for the
Philadelphia facility responsible for Newark flights, was the only person working during a harrowing system blackout that left planes unmonitored for 90 seconds on May 9. Before this,
another power failure lasting a minute and a half created tension with the controllers in late April. On May 11, a similar incident took place, but back up systems started that time around.
Within the last 10 months, the worker predicted around 12 other technical issues. These included a two-second radio outage that occurred Tuesday around 11.35am. After radar mishaps, staffing
shortages, and delays and cancelations at Newark (EWR), the worker was sent for a psych assessment. In a account sent to The Times, she said her experiences working at Newark have deterred
her from boarding any flights from what she believes is an airport waiting for a tragedy to happen. "Do I think it’s safe to fly from or to the airport?" she wrote in the Times.
"Let me put it like this: I deliberately avoid my own airport when booking flights, even if the alternatives are more expensive and less convenient. If Newark’s air traffic control
problems don’t get fixed, I believe it’s only a matter of time before we have a fatal crash between two planes." At the May 9 incident, the controller was working from her desk at 4am
and admitted she was the only one working during the early hours. She said she felt drained, but still alert and able to do her job efficiently. Suddenly, her radar went blank and all of the
frequencies tracking flights' positions, speeds and altitudes to prevent in-air collisions cut out. Adding to this, she had no way of contacting the four planes on her radar just
moments before. This did not appear to be new, as she thought: "Oh no, It's happening again." Previously, the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) addressed the situation:
"The FAA has more than 74,000 pieces of equipment in the National Airspace System. "Every air traffic control facility has a contingency plan to ensure safety, and we have built-in
redundancies, backup systems, and procedures in the case of system failure, weather, or other unplanned event. "But as Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy noted, our system is outdated
and showing its age. When equipment issues occur, the FAA will ensure safety by slowing down air traffic at an airport." Article continues below _FOR THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS AND
